Lust may be defined as giving our passion to someone or something other than God. All of our hopes, desires, and drive should be wrapped up in God. As Christians, we should be living our lives out of relationship with God. Everything we do and everything we give ourselves to (in our heart, mind, or deeds) should flow out of that relationship. But far too often we spend time and energy pursuing things which are totally disconnected from our “religion.” Consequently, spirituality takes a smaller and smaller backseat to the pursuits we give our time and attention to, instead of our desires coming closer and closer to the heart of God. Although we may be reluctant to call these pursuits and desires lust, we must see them for what they are and cut them off at the root. Unholy fruit comes from unholy roots! The real problem is that we allow too much of our SELVES when God is calling for a people who will die to self and live for Him.
