Why no compromise?

Today’s Christianity is filled with people whose greatest spiritual desire is to not go “too far.” Consequently, “too far” has become an increasingly blurry line with hundreds of thousands of carnal Christians edging ever closer to it-making a game out of dancing on the wall that borders hell. In the process, believers make room for sin, for the devil, and for the flesh, forgetting or ignoring altogether the scriptural admonitions to the contrary. This is compromise.

You give a little, I give a little, the devil gives a little, and God? Well……God is a non-consideration.

And really, it doesn’t matter where you draw the line, so long as you edge ever toward it instead of running in the opposite direction. That’s the nature of compromise-your standards can be as high as you like, so long as you are happy to stand on top and look at the other side every now and again.

Webster defines compromise like this:

1. To bind by mutual agreement; to agree.

2. To adjust and settle by mutual concessions; to compound.

3. To pledge by some act or declaration; to endanger the life, reputation, etc., of, by some act which can not be recalled; to expose to suspicion. (dictionary.com)

And that’s exactly where so many are, right now. Bound, giving concessions, and with their spiritual lives in danger… because of compromise.

But, what was it the beloved disciple said? “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). Rest assured that the Savior will not be making any compromises.

Hear Him speak:

I have come to cast fire upon the earth, and how I wish that it were already kindled.” -Luke 12:49

Fire is always burning. There is no compromise between fire and water. And so it is with those who burn with the love of God. Where they are, there can be no mixture. Have you ever held a fire in your hand and asked it to compromise? But the prophet said that the word of God was a fire in his very bones! It takes no prisoners!

Look, the world has enough lukewarm, watered down, milk-toast christianity. Poverty is not lowered by it, the hungry are not fed by it, and sinners are not saved by it. The world needs something that it does not have currently-something that can save the lost, feed the hungry, and heal the wounded (and yes-bring good news to the poor). The world needs a Fire-and that Fire will not compromise.

So why no compromise? Because God’s holiness is of infinitely greater importance than a cheap thrill. Because the only answer for the present, suffocating darkness is the pure Light of Christ. Because God shouldn’t be a non-consideration, He should be the only consideration.

Because if you want revival: Absolutely No Compromise.
